Stuff is arriving.

The LED flashers and bulk LEDs arrived. Oh, and the body cylinder came, too. I was staring at the package thinking "it looks a little small, diameter-wise", so I looked at the packing list and they shipped a 16" tube instead of an 18". So I'm sending it back. The folks at TapeEase were great on the phone and are cross-shipping a replacement and covering all the shipping costs. Cool.

Ordered resin utility arms.

Just ordered a set of 2 of these from Steve Frare.

Rockler bearing has arrived!

I'm a geek, I know. I'm actually excited that this plain brown box with a round piece of aluminum in it just arrived by UPS. It's my first real R2 part that I can hold in my hands. I'm really amped now. Just thought I'd share that with ya.

Parts update.

Talked to Tapeease, and the body cylinder should be here within a week or so. Also heard from Rob. The aluminum domes are being spun now, and should ship in about two weeks. Time to make room in the basement and set up shop.

I'm going with the wood cylinder body.

I've decided to take the route of the wood body cylinder. So I'll be ordering the 18" O.D. plywood cylinder from tapeease.com in the morning.

Ankle cylinders

Snagged the very last available set of these machined aluminum ankle cylinders from Pat Coajou.

More parts ordered from Astromech.net

Ordered the resin-cast radar eye from Dave Everett in Australia.

Ordered first R2D2 parts

I ordered the raw aluminum dome and and the top vent internals tonight. Now I'm committed. Gotta get it done in time for the Star Wars Celebration in April 2005.

First post to new R2 Blog

Ok, so I'm starting another project (like I need another one). For over 25 years I've wanted my own R2D2. So now I'm going to make one.
